Hello everyone! I'm just starting to work out again, to get ready for next years games in Wisconsin... Last week I could barely walk up stairs for 3 days afterwards. It was great! Anyone starting to train yet? If so, what events are you doing and what training are you doing to get ready?

Joanne, I raised with a nurse in Northern Ireland this issue of the terrible tiredness.
As you know we get affects from the drugs that they generally dont tell us about in case we all belive we have them and we dont. She told me that studies were done in Canada in relation to the tiredness and it is not a muscular/ physical problem it is something in the brain being triggered by the meds.
On days when I waken up and feel like that I go to the gym and blast the life out of my training, normally a tough spin class. When I am finished I feel on top of the world, so essentially the adrenaline rush from training counteracts the problem. In terms of putting on weight I worked out with a personal trainer and with diet advice and weight training I put on the right type of weight.
One of the main questions is are your results all positive if so then go with increasing your weights until you start to build muscle.
Hope this helps a little. Tom.

Gary, I actually just recently discussed whey protein with my doc. I was going to start using it and he told me NOT to because it can do damage to the kidneys! So you were definitely right on that one, but I would ask your doc what he recommends for you. My nutritionist, as well as my docs, have me drinking high protein Boost drinks. They are a bit expensive, so you can also drink carnation instant breakfast instead. I personally prefer the Boost. I usually drink 2 a day one b4 and after my workout. I would keep eating your natural protein sources though too. It's good repair for your body.

I am trying to drop about 13 pounds overall, but ultimately gain it back in muscle. I want increase my protein intake, but I'm concerned about my kidney. Has anyone ever dicussed this with their DR? For now I am sticking to natural sources so as meat, eggs, etc, but I would like to and a protein shake after a good workout.

Arthur, that's so good that you are working with a trainer on an exercise routine! I waited to do sit ups till about a year or so after my tx. If you do start to do them, I would go light on the exercise there at first. You pry won't be able to do too many anyway since you haven't used those muscles in awhile. I do have some stomach exercises for ya that will def be beneficial for you. For now, hold your stomach muscles tight will you walk around and such.

In regards to gaining weight, I'm the same way. I've always been thin. I had my liver 3 years ago. I work out on a regular basis and am going to Aussie for the World games here soon. swimming is a good all over workout and I lift light weights as well. My docs and nutritionist have me drinking high protein Boost or carnation instant breakfast before and after workouts. I eat Cliff bars too. Sounds like your drinking some yummy drinks too! I love bananas and pb!! Try drinking 2 of those each day. It's all about the calorie intake. I tend to snack frequently througout the day. Hope that helps you a bit :) I'll try and send those stomach exercises soon... take care!

I am a liver transplant recipient 18 months out. Five weeks ago I joined a fitness center and currently work with a trainer highly recommended by one of my doctors. I am using the treadmill for 30 minutes on a cross country setting and have increased the incline and speed. I also do arm, shoulder, chest and leg exercises and have been regaining muscle tone. I am only doing minor exercises to flatten and strengthen the stomach and the trainer has not recommended any weight bearing exercises.

Any recommendations for exercises that will flatten and strengthen the stomach? My surgeon told me that any incisional hernias that will happen will happen but exercising may make them occur faster.

After a hard battle to regain 35 pounds I have lost 10 pounds since I started exercising. I am taking protein drinks with added peanut butter and bananas or by adding strawberry or peach ice cream and additional fruit preserves. Carmel Frappachino’s are also a favorite. I have one of the above one each day. Any other suggestions for weight gain. I have always been trim (thin) but I have trouble retaining weight. Any thoughts?

Wow! I just looked at the 5k cycling results from the worlds two years ago, and the winning time was 7:37. That probably works out to be about a 24.5 mph average. I have a lot of work ahead to get in that range. This is going to be fun!

I just recently took a belly dancing class and it was super fun!! I've always wanted to try it, so I decided I might as well. It's such good workout. There was women of all ages and sizes and it was a really good self esteem booster too. We all laughed and had fun while burning calories :) All you women out there should so try it! I also do yoga or pilates for good core strength and relaxation.
