Hi there! My name is Sara Pietrzak. I had a double lung txp. 5 years ago. I've done amazingly well. One bout with cmv, rsv, and an irregular heart beat, that is hopefully fixed! I'm not sure if it is because of my two wonderful little boys or in spite of them (little germ carriers!)! No rejection so far, but I got tired of waiting for the shoe to drop and I live my life to the fullest (within the parameters set by Johns Hopkins, of course!)

Too many people ignore the close inter-relation between kidney diseases and diabetes or hypertension. Worldwide, 246 million people suffer from diabetes and the figure is expected to reach 380 million by 2025. Diabetic nephropathy affects a third of people suffering from diabetes. Sadly, less than half people diagnosed with diabetes undergo a screening test.
Next Word Kidney Day will be held on Thursday 11 March 2010 and will focus on Diabetes, the leading cause of kidney failure.

World Kidney Day offers a crucial, visible opportunity to inform and educate health policy-makers, people who are at highest risk of CKD, and the general public that kidney disease is common, harmful and treatable.

Join our World Kidney Day 2010 group and come to exchange your experience and ideas that could be proposed to World Kidney Day organisers over the world.

The success of World Kidney Day across the world is only possible because of each of you!

HELLO, MY FATHER HAD A DOUBLE LUNG TRANSPLANT 3 YEARS AGO. WE ARE HAPPY TO HAVE IN WITH US AND SAD THAT ONE PERSON HAD TO DIE. THE EMOTIONS ARE SO MIXED UP. NOT SURE WHAT TO SAY TO THE DONOR FAMILY. I WISH I HAD THE WORDS FOR THEM. THEY ARE WONDERFUL PEOPLE.

I am having a similar issue post-transplant. Have your docs tried using IVIG and plasmaphoresis? This is more drastic but if your panel reactive antibodies remain high they can't risk transplanting.I am so sorry you are having this issue. It is a tough one.
Melinda Kay Abernathey Comment by Melinda Kay Abernathey on July 5, 2009 at 7:17am
Hi, I have been on the Lung Transplant list almost 2 years now and it seems that I may be on it longer as they are having problems finding a donor as I have a very high count of antibodies which is stopping me from getting transplanted. My doctors are trying to remove these B cells but it seems that this did not react the way that it has on other people. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?
