National Kidney Foundation U.S. TRANSPLANT GAMES

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF), along with its many Divisions/Affiliates, presents the NKF U.S. Transplant Games celebration of life that includes transplant recipients, their friends and families, living donors, donor families, transplant professionals and spectators from the host community.

The Games is the only national athletic competition for recipients of all life-saving organ transplants, as well as the largest gathering of transplant recipients and donor families in the world. The Games serve to promote the health and fitness of its participants while showcasing the success of transplantation, highlighting the tremendous need for more organ and tissue donors, and honoring the thousands of selfless acts of love from donors and their families all over the world.

The Games is a four-day athletic competition for recipients of organ transplants. Competition in the Games is open to anyone whose most recent lifesaving solid organ transplant — heart, liver, kidney, lung, intestine, pancreas and/or heterologous bone marrow — has been functioning for at least six months.

As much as the Games is an athletic event that calls attention to the success of organ and tissue transplantation, it is also a celebration of life among recipients, their families and friends as well as an opportunity to honor our nation’s donors.

The purposes of the NKF U.S. Transplant Games are:

**To demonstrate to the public the collective and individual successes of the life-restoring therapy of organ transplantation.

**To utilize the media to promote the success of organ donation and transplantation.

**To call attention to the need for organ donation through events and support activity before, during, and after the event.

**To contribute to the successful rehabilitation of the nation’s transplant patient community.

**To involve the entire transplant community including physicians, allied professionals, patients, donor families, living donors and related organizations in a collaborative effort for the benefit of organ donation.

**To provide an opportunity for these goals to be achieved locally by NKF Affiliates and other participating organizations.

For more information visit www.transplantgames.org or call (800) 622-9010.

Our Mission

The National Kidney Foundation, a major voluntary nonprofit health organization, is dedicated to preventing kidney and urinary tract diseases, improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by kidney disease and increasing the availability of all organs for transplantation.

Through its more than 50 local offices nationwide, the NKF provides vital patient and community services, conducts extensive public and professional education, advocates for patients through legislative action and supports kidney research to identify new treatments.

The NKF relies on individual and corporate donations, business partnerships, foundation and government grants and revenue from special events. More than 81 cents of each dollar donated to NKF goes directly to support its programs and services.

I am so excited that the Transplant Games in 2010 will be held in Madison, Wi. I go there to my TX doctor and live 2 hours north from there. I plan to be involved somehow! Not sure how yet, but will work something out. Last year I designed the T-shirt for the Wisconsin Team. Judi

Double Anniversary

I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that this month is a double anniversary for me. On the 13th I will be 25 years out from my second kidney transplant. December, 25th will mark 30 years post first kidney transplant. It doesn't seem that its been that long ago,
I will forever think about the families that made the faithful decision that saved my life and the lives of other complete strangers. I do celebrate on the anniversaries but, I also mourn because of the loss that was e…

Thanksgiving Heart

We had a nice quiet thanksgiving, just three of us because the rest of the family live in Oklahoma.... But at 12:04 a.m. on Friday morning, we got the call! It only took us 24 minutes to get dressed, throw some things in a bag, get out of our gated parking area, drive 10 blocks or so, get ticket in the parking garage, park and get into the hospital up on the 7th floor at the nurses station. I think that was record time. Brady was pulling me in the garage trying to make me hurry, but I have arthr…
