When I was actually diagnosed with ESRD at first I wasn't sure what it was, how long it would last or what my life was going to be like, but I became a Peer Mentor for National Kidney Foundation of Mich and started sharing my personal story and began my out reach. As a young person I was diagnosed with Goodpasture's Syndrome and started dialysis at a very early age (mid teens) so I guess I grew up with learning and educating myself and others regarding kidney disease. I met my husband when I was on dialysis and he has been with me from that end of my life to the other chapters that moved for me. After transplant I have attended many Kidney Events from Advocacy Day in Lansing Michigan to the annual Kidney Ball in Detroit MI. But the thing I love about me is that I am different than my family & friends, I have an incredible story and the best thing is sharing and helping others over come their obstacles. My faith and my love for helping keeps me going. I am currently enrolled in college majoring in Social Work

I have had 2 kidney transplants and my most recent has lasted 6 years (my brother donated). Thanks Jay, I really needed that today. It was a long weekend. Hope yours went good. I am really try'n to get out of this little funk I've been in lately, I think because I haven't seen my brother in almost 6 years from him donating that I just feel like, I've let him down by not spending so much time in Portland where he is since my transplant. I hope to see him when I go back home to visit next week.

Double Anniversary

I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that this month is a double anniversary for me. On the 13th I will be 25 years out from my second kidney transplant. December, 25th will mark 30 years post first kidney transplant. It doesn't seem that its been that long ago,
I will forever think about the families that made the faithful decision that saved my life and the lives of other complete strangers. I do celebrate on the anniversaries but, I also mourn because of the loss that was e…

Thanksgiving Heart

We had a nice quiet thanksgiving, just three of us because the rest of the family live in Oklahoma.... But at 12:04 a.m. on Friday morning, we got the call! It only took us 24 minutes to get dressed, throw some things in a bag, get out of our gated parking area, drive 10 blocks or so, get ticket in the parking garage, park and get into the hospital up on the 7th floor at the nurses station. I think that was record time. Brady was pulling me in the garage trying to make me hurry, but I have arthr…
