Update: I finally got my H1N1 Jab last Thursday. Thought I would give it a couple of days before I commented. Apart from a really sore (feels very bruised) arm and a slight head cold all is fine. Just taking some Paracetamol for the pain.

It's strange yes, since receiving my heart 23 years ago I have gradually developed a huge taste for German foods, I have started learning the language and I am a MASSIVE fan of Rammstein and Eisbrecher (German Heavy Metal bands). I go to see Rammst…

God how I have always loved Grapefruit Juice! In reality you are not supposed to take any of your meds with the juice. It stops your body absorbing the immunosupressant. I've had it drilled into me now for 23 yrs and I adhere to it strictly, plus b…

If we are talking regular Flu here, I have been having the jab now for over 15 years. At most I get a slight head-cold from it, although both the Flu and the H1N1 Vaccines are dead viruses and would therefore be unable to do us any harm. I am expec…

I am now currently undergoing assessment for another Cardiac Transplant. I had a Angiogram on the 31st July at the Request of Dr Townend in order to find out the condition of my current transplant.

Thankfully there appears to be no change since my last angiogram in 2001.

Weight-loss... progress report

My last blog entry detailed how I had begun the long process of losing weight. Although at first it was a rapid loss due to the large drop in my Prednisolone dosage it soon levelled out, however I was losing around 2lbs (1kg) a week.

I detailed how I had ballooned to a weight of 19st 10lbs (125kg), but had managed to lose just over a stone in weight. I was down to 18st 6 back then.

As of today I now weigh in at 17st 6lbs, hence since my last blog entry I have lost another stone in weight. I am… Continue

The weight is finally departing.... but slowly, ever so painfully slowly!!!!!!

It is a while now since I finally managed to get my Prednisolone reduced - WOO HOO! From 10mg daily to 5mg alternate days.

Needless to say in the early days after the weight literally dropped off me, I went from 19st 10 (125kg ~) to 18st 6 (117kg ~) in 3 weeks! I was worried I was losing the weight too rapidly.

Now thankfully it has slowed, I am losing roughly 2lbs a week. I am down to 115kg, which is a huge drop, but there is still a very long way to go. I estimate a further 4, maybe 5 stone… Continue

Last Chance Saloon... up in smoke

The past few months have been really hard, and do not appear to be getting any easier. From my previous blog posts it is easy to see how I have been constantly in and out of hospital on numerous occasions, nothing new, but it all adds to the pressure and I not only feel physically exhausted, but mentally exhausted too. I never seem to have the energy to do anything now.

On a plus note, the reduction of my Prednisolone, has begun to have an effect on my weight and it is now, slowly but surely go… Continue

An infection, then a thrombosis...

It was Monday 3rd August, I had been discharged from the QE Hospital in Birmingham after undergoing a Coronary Angiogram. I noticed my Wisdom tooth was slightly tender, probably due to the gum being irritated.

However over the next few days it began to get worse, by Thursday the infection in my gum had spread to my tongue, gums and throat. I was unable to eat or drink, swallowing was extremely painful. I underwent a course of Co-Amoxiclav and then a course of Metronidazole. Neither touched the… Continue

Worlds longest surviving Heart Transplant patient dies... of cancer

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1205842/Longest-surviving-heart-transplant-recipient-dies-cancer-aged-51.html

Please see the above link for the full article. Tony Huesman had survived 31 years post Cardiac Transplant, yet it was Cancer that got him in the end. 'His heart had still been going strong' according to his widow.

What a remarkable gentleman, a role model for all heart transplantees to look up to. Its just a shame that it was the dreaded big 'C' that took him away.… Continue

doctors last month said I had a rejection because there was fluid around my percardium wall of the heart called percardial effusion They said it was a rejection I had this twice once in may and just recently another episode although when i was in the hospital they gave me prednisone then retested me biopsy and it was a 1a no rejection it could of been a rejection or it wasnt the docs said it was but I still confused I think it was a complication more then a rejection. I had back and shoulder pain and a fever with low blood pressure and high pulse rate before this came on they took it as a rejection. I don't know it boggles my mind but now they have me on all these meds uped me big time dose wise maybe for precaution measures I am not sure but my weight goes from 136 to 132 flucuates its a mess I just they lower my prednisone.

paul i take 15mg of prednisone in the morning and 15mg at night are you saying i take 30 mg in the morning? I was taking 5 mg morning only until my rejection came up last month so the docs said it was there was fluid around my percarduium wall of the heart my biopsy showed a 1a no rejection pressures normal but docs said it was a rejection when i think it was a complication from prior surgery like dresslers syndrome they told me alot of transplants get this 1 yr or so after surgery have you heart of this happening???

Hi Paul,We are praying for you just remember when there seems no way God always finds a way. Hang in there my friend look up to the one who created you for his perfect purpose. No matter what information the doctors bring your way there is no greater physician than our father in Heaven. Last year my son was so ill and it didn't look good the doctors were talking of sending him to the ICU ward all the while our family was praying that if he passes on to you Lord give us what we need to cope. At that point we thought God was calling our son home but God had other plans he renewed our sons life when it seemed hopeless. My message is this when all seems at the very lowest God who still performs miracles today can pull you from the brink of death fill your body with a renewed gift of life,he is an awesome God! All things are possible through Christ Jesus! You are on our prayer list keep your head up and thank him for your new heart that's coming my friend you are wonderfully made by the creator an Almighty God! Keep me posted will ya,God Bless,Brenda

I hope all goes well with your bone scan... I think that all you can do is take things one day at a time. And realize that it is normal to have ups and downs along the way! I really feel bad for all that you are dealing with right now, and wish I had the power to make it all go away - if only...

Have a wonderful day and enjoy the small things!

Hey Paul, thanks for your comment! Yeah I am really proud and grateful of/for my sister! They don't know what caused my renal failure.. I don't have diabetes, and never had high blood pressure until my kidneys failed and that shot up. I never really had anything too terrible before I found out, I was absolutely exhausted and was throwing up every couple weeks which was abnormal. I had horrible headaches and had trouble sleeping, but the headaches were from the newly skyrocketed bp! 250/160, that's how I landed in the emergency room! I wonder why you were having such intense reactions..maybe that's normal???

I just read your profile, am so sorry to hear you are having heart failure! 6 years old... you are a tough one!!
