Back to you Steve. Cellcept is usually used for about one year after other organ transplants, the length of administration determined by a statistical analysis of how well it has helped patients avoid rejection. I just read an April, 2008 study that also said there are now more reports of encephalopathy caused by this drug. We are all made up a bit differently and the way any medication affects us is based on our chemical makeup and how our activities and diet affect that makeup.
My own orientation is with liver transplants and should probably refrain from medical/pharmacological comments related to other organs.. Just a thought. Perhaps a nutritionist could help suggest how introduction of certain foods might help your post op rise in creatinine, or see if your transplant physician or a nephrologist might have to say on this topic. Thanks Steve. Wishing you well

Hi Steve,
Don't know that I've come across taking both Prograf AND Rappamune. They both seem to act as the primary anti-rejection medication and then, in addition to either of these, a patient will be prescribed Cellcept, which, at my transplant center, is given for about the first year or so post transplant.
I'm not saying anyone messed up, but I would question as to why there is a duplication in your anti-rejection medication. In my experience, it has been either/or with either Prograf or Rappamune. Please let me know what your transplant surgeon or transplant coordinator has to say about this. There could possibly be some reason I'm not aware of to use both simultaneouosly.
