Hello everyone!
Recently I was contacted by Laura Johnston, a writer who works for a company called "Splash News and Picture Agency," a worldwide publisher of newsworthy stories.
Laura would like to feature some stories (the more outrageous and 'far out' or extreme the better) of transplant recipients who have developed new talents that they feel were passed on to them from their organ donor.
To have an idea what this is all about,…

SAN FRANCISCO -
Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs has returned to his showman role, taking the stage Wednesday at a product launch event for the first time since his nearly six-month-long medical leave.
Jobs, who had a liver transplant this spring, got a standing ovation. Looking thin and speaking quietly and with a scratchy voice, he told the audience he had received the liver of a young...

Have you ever heard someone say something like "if you're an organ donor and are in a bad accident and in critical condition, doctors will let you die so that they can take your organs for transplant" ?? Or, "oh no, I can't become a donor, because if I do, something horrible may happen to me!" ?
Even some of us who have transplants, may even be guilty of having entertain similar misconceptions before ever needing a transplant.
Many foundations and organizations have tried to bring these myths…

Hello TC Family!
I hope this memo finds you in great and improving health..
Great news! Holly Werlein (Holdol) has become a cafe administrator! Holly and I have had a few lengthy conversations about the cafe and it's mission and vision.. and let me just say that you can expect to be impressed with her passion for transplantation and increasing awareness.
And, she could not have made herself available as an admin soon enough, because secretly, I was really hoping for someone like her to get in…

Just received my weekly newsletter from Donate Life Hollywood (OneLegacy), a Southern California organ awareness foundation. I've copied this week's message below which is addressed to the Ambassadors, but I thought you may want to do something similar to what Tenaya suggests:
Original Message:
Dear Donate Life Ambassadors,
Please help educate and inspire the audiences seeing the movie Seven Pounds this holiday season. The movie has a donation and transplant storyline, which is…

My friend Many Hernandez of TuDiabetes.com, a social network similar to the Cafe and the whole Diabetes community needs your help! They are petitioning Google to light up a Diabetes Doodle on World Diabetes Day, 11-14-08.
You may have seen this before when a special holiday comes about, Google will light up their logo with art that supports that particular holiday. In the future, we'll be doing the same for World Transplant Day. But if you or someone you know are diabetic, please click the imag…

Recently, I've been asked to remove a member from the site named Dave Undis who has an organization called LifeSharers, based on his views on organ donation.
When the idea of Transplant Cafe was brewing in my mind 2-3 years ago, it showed itself as a true community in every way and not just a support group. In fact the support aspect of TC is meant to be a big part of it, but just as equally important would be the other opportunities for community interaction a site like this facilitates.
In a…

THE WAITING LIST
How the Waiting List Works
Primary care physicians determine whether their patients should be referred to a transplant center for evaluation. Following extensive tests, if it is determined that the patient is a good candidate for transplantation, the center adds the patient’s name to the center’s as well as national waiting lists. In the United States, the national waiting list is maintained by the…
